]]> With under 5 weeks remaining until the start of Intel® Extreme Masters Katowice 2018, the anticipation continues to build in the SC2 community. The event so far is shaping up to be one of the most stacked and loaded tournaments of all time. The reigning WCS Global champion, who was invited, has been joined by 11 others who rightfully now stand by his side, preparing to compete for the largest prize pool in the IEM SC2 history.

]]> After three days of world-class StarCraft® II action, the time has come to determine which top Korean player will clinch the IEM Shanghai trophy. Left in the running were TY, ByuN, Rogue and herO and in the end, it was the Zerg player who bested all of his opponents claiming his first ever IEM championship.

]]> The third day of our 34th IEM StarCraft® tournament saw eight top players battling it out for a slot in the semifinals. After two days of exciting group stage matches, we couldn’t wait to see what herO, iAsonu, TY, Dark, Rogue, INnoVation, soO and ByuN would show us in the quarterfinals. The results did end up being more or less one sided with the exception of herO vs. INnoVation, which needed all five maps to be played out.

After four world-class series, it will be herO, TY, ByuN or Rogue who will lift the IEM Shanghai trophy during tomorrow’s finals.

]]> IEM Shanghai is in full swing with our 34th StarCraft® tournament! Yesterday, July 27, TY, Dark, Rogue and iAsonu, the top players from groups A and B, secured slots in the quarterfinals. Today, July 28, it was time to see which four players from groups C and D would join them. As each group of IEM Shanghai ended up being incredibly stacked, we knew we were in for some thrilling StarCraft II action and we were not disappointed.

From group A, it was soO and herO who bested their opponents, while group B saw INnoVation and ByuN advance. Here’s how it happened.

Results

Group A

  • soO vs. TIME 2-1
  • herO vs. Solar 1-2
  • soO vs. Solar 2-1
  • TIME vs. herO 0-2
  • Solar vs. herO 1-2

soO finished on top of the group which was exactly what was predicted. The battle for the second slot came down to Solar and herO and even though the former had better chances on paper to advance, it will be herO continuing to compete in the playoffs.

 

Group B

  • INnoVation vs. Trust 2-0
  • Maru vs. ByuN 2-0
  • INnoVation vs. Maru 2-1
  • Trust vs. ByuN 0-2
  • Maru vs. ByuN 1-2

INnoVation was expected to finish third in this group but proved us wrong and is shaping up as a strong contender to take the trophy in Shanghai. The second slot was for fought for by ByuN and Maru and despite Maru giving ByuN a run for his money, it will be the latter to play in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

 

The playoffs begin tomorrow!

Tomorrow, July 29, we will watch all of the quarterfinal matchups:

  • TY vs. iAsonu
  • INnoVation vs. herO
  • Rogue vs. Dark
  • soO vs. ByuN

]]> Today, July 22, our second IEM event of season 12 as well as our 34th StarCraft® event kicked off at ChinaJoy, Shanghai. We saw groups A and B play out and two players from each group advance to the playoffs. From group A, it was, as predicted, TY and Dark who bested their opponents while in group B, we saw some upsets as the local hero, iAsonu, advanced to the quarterfinals together with Rogue.

Results

Group A

  • TY vs. PenguiN 2-0
  • Dark vs. Bunny 2-1
  • TY vs. Dark 2-0
  • PenguiN vs. Bunny 0-2
  • Dark vs. Bunny 2-1

The results of group A turned out almost as predicted in our group preview, with the only difference being TY finishing first and Dark second so no big surprises here!

 

 

Group B

  • Stats vs. iAsonu 2-1
  • GuMiHo vs. Rogue 1-2
  • Stats vs. Rogue 1-2
  • iAsonu vs. GuMiHo 2-0
  • Stats vs. iAsonu 1-2

Group B, on the other hand, brought one big surprise in the form of a local hero, iAsonu, who was expected to finish the group at last place. Instead, however, he took us by surprise and manage to clinch that second group spot defeating players theoretically better than him. The player we predicted to finish first, GuMiHo, ended up fourth in the group. Will we see more upsets tomorrow?

 

The action continues tomorrow!

Tomorrow, July 28, we will determine the remaining four players who will join TY, Dark, iAsonu and Rogue in the IEM Shanghai quarterfinals! All matches will be livestreamed over here starting from 4:00 AM CEST.
