]]> After two days of group stage matches, the League of Legends World Championship moved to the Spodek arena in Katowice to play its decider matches in front of the passionate crowd. Four teams battled it out to join Flash Wolves and ROX Tigers in the semifinals and to continue their run for the coveted IEM trophy.

Group A decider

The two teams remaining in group A were H2k and Hong Kong Esports. The Europeans were heavy favorites to take the series but, as Jankos said himself, they trolled a bit and didn’t give the match 100%, which lead them to losing game one. After this wake up call, however, H2k and especially the home crowd favorite, Jankos, stepped up their game and dominated the remaining two games, taking the series 2-1 and moving onto the semifinals where they will face Flash Wolves.

Group B decider

The group B decider match was a real treat for EULCS fans as two top European teams, G2 Esports and Unicorns of Love, fought for the last remaining semifinal slot. The teams have just played each other in the LCS with G2 taking the win and his series was no different. Although many called it an ‘’EU fiesta’’ the result is still the same – G2 move onto the semifinals where they will face ROX Tigers.

Unicorns of Love, TSM, Flash Wolves and Longzhu gave it their all but it was the majestic Unicorns who became champions.

Two teams from the IEM Challenger paris, INTZ and Chiefs, took on Unicorns of Love and Longzhu respectively with the latter teams taking both series and securing a slot in the semifinals.

]]> The final day of League of Legends competition at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2016 proved itself to be fast and furious. With the Season 10 League of Legends Intel Extreme Masters World Champion now decided, congratulations are definitely in order!

The first semifinal saw SK Telecom T1 make quick work of Team SoloMid, taking the series 2-0 and in just under 30 and 25 minutes respectively. Fnatic were also keen to underline their determination in semifinal two, giving Royal Never Give Up little breathing room – especially in game one – and ultimately earning their grand final spot 2-1. However, in the end it was SK Telecom T1 who took the grand final win, with Fnatic conceding in game three to give them a 3-0 final scoreline.

]]> The second day of League of Legends at the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship in Katowice heralded the turn of the teams of Group B. Having already seen some of their fellows fall on Friday and with the promise of the title as well as the lion’s share of the US$100,000 prize pool on Sunday, the only way was forward.

SK Telecom T1 definitely made their mark, starting off the day by swiftly defeating Counter Logic Gaming before taking only a few minutes more to bring down the Qiao Gu Reapers. Fnatic fought hard to stay in the runnings after their initial loss to Qiao Gu Reapers, defeating Counter Logic Gaming and winning the right to a rematch. The latter turned out in their favor, with an intense battle ultimately ending in them taking the series.

]]> League of Legends Intel Extreme Masters World Championship will be another chance for the North American teams to prove themselves on the international stage. Having done poorly at Worlds and failing to win at IEM San Jose and Cologne, the North American scene is looking at Team SoloMid and Counter logic Gaming to take a stance in Katowice.

Team SoloMid

Team SoloMid are the reigning Intel Extreme Masters World Champions and are returning to Katowice to defend their title. The team underwent significant roster changes since their win on Polish soil. After 2015 Worlds and before the beginning of Summer 2016 Split, Dyrus, Santorin and Lustboy left the roster. They were replaced by Hauntzer, Svenskeren and kaSing respectively with kaSing having ultimately been replaced by the star support, Yellowstar. TSM’s ADC, WildTurtle, on the other hand has been replaced by CLG’s star player, Doublelift.

The team has been performing inconsistently in the NA LCS, orbiting around the middle of the standings, currently sitting at fourth place with 8 wins and 6 losses. Their first matchup in Katowice will be the South Korean wonder, ESC Ever who emerged victorious at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne.

Counter Logic Gaming

Counter Logic Gaming also underwent some significant roster changes, biggest one being the departure of Doublelift, the team’s AD Carry. He was replaced by Stixxay who was initially announced just for Intel Extreme Masters San Jose but earned a spot in the regular roster for 2016. The team’s second change was changing the starting midlaner from Pobelter to Huhi.

CLG has been doing well in the North American LCS, sitting at second place with ten wins and four losses. They won their last four matches, including their matchup against Immortals who have not lost a game until last Saturday. CLG is looking stronger than TSM however, they will have a very difficult start to the tournament as their first matchup will be against reigning World Champions, SKT T1.

]]> Only a couple of days stand between us and Intel Extreme Masters Cologne. Six teams will travel to the ESL studios to compete for the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne trophy, but only one can lift it following Sunday’s grand final. Will it be relatively new Chinese team Qiao Gu Reapers who emerge victorious?

Deadly efficiency?

The Qiao Gu Reapers are the sister team of Stand Point Gaming, a Chinese League of Legends team coached by former Royal Club support Tabe whose mid and ADC players – Cherish and MasterMao respectively – left in May 2015 to join the Reapers’ roster as subs. Formed by Stand Point in January 2015 after they acquired the slot of other Chinese team Dream Catcher, the Qiao Gu Reapers have gained some pretty respectable results.

 

In August, they took second place at the 2015 LPL Summer Playoffs, while in September they achieved third place at the 2015 Season China Regional Finals. The team has also achieved a first place finish before, having come out on top in the 2015 LSPL Spring Playoffs in April 2015 and taken home winnings of ¥200,000 as a result. However, will the Qiao Gu Reapers be able to continue this promising pattern in Cologne? It won’t be long before we find out…

Although officially a Chinese team, the Qiao Gu Reapers roster includes players from both China and South Korea. With Chen “Cherish” Zhe, Mao “MasterMao” Tian-Hao and Kim “BoriSal” Yeong-hoon the team’s capable sub lineup, the Reapers full roster is as follows:

]]> Intel Extreme Masters Cologne is just a couple of days away, with six great League of Legends teams set to gather at the ESL studios in Cologne, Germany to battle it out for a US$50,000 prize pool and the coveted Intel Extreme Masters trophy.

Long and steady season, short run at Worlds

The team who placed second in the European team vote and thus secured a slot in the tournament was H2k. They have been very consistent in the European LCS, placing third in the 2015 Summer Split and the Summer Playoffs. H2k lost twice in the Summer Split to both Fnatic and Origen, who placed above them in the final standings. Other series against their opponents were either a win or a draw, with the final win score being 11-7 for H2k.

The Summer Playoffs started out good for H2k as they defeated GIANTS Gaming 3-0 in the quarterfinals. However, they fell in the semifinals to Origen 1-3, although still managing to secure third place after defeating Unicorns of Love 3-0.

By taking the third place at playoffs, H2k secured themselves a slot at Worlds 2015, where they got placed in a group with SK Telecom T1, Edward Gaming and Bangkok Titans. H2k managed to get two wins, both of which came from the Bangkok Titans (who lost all of their matchups). Placing third in their group with a 2-4 scoreline, H2k ended their Worlds 2015 journey.

New roster, new beginning?

H2k has made significant changes to their roster since Worlds ended. Joining the team will be three new players: Jankos, Vander and FORG1VEN. The full team roster now looks as follows:

]]> Intel Extreme Masters Cologne is less than a week away. There we will see six League of Legends teams from around the world to battle it out for a US$50,000 prize pool and the coveted Intel Extreme Masters trophy. One of the attending teams is Team Dignitas from North America, who placed third in the fan vote and is replacing Team Liquid, who had to withdraw from the competition.

Return to Cologne

This will be the second appearance in a row at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne for Dignitas. The team competed in last year’s tournament, starting off in the quarterfinals against Aces High Esports Club (now known as Besiktas e-Sports Club). They emerged victorious in the best-of-three matchup with 2-1 a score. However, they fell in the semifinals to later Intel Extreme Masters Cologne champions Gambit Gaming, losing a 0-2.

Team Dignitas gave a pretty steady performance in the 2015 NA LCS Summer Split. They faced every team twice and only completely lost one matchup against Counter Logic Gaming. They won 2-0 versus Enemy eSports and Team 8 and drew 1-1 with all of their other opponents. In the end, they secured the sixth slot in the Summer Split standings with a 10-8 score. Dignitas then proceeded to play in the NA Summer Playoffs, where they unfortunately lost in the quarterfinals 0-3 to Team Impulse.

New roster – new chance?

Only Shiphtur and KiWiKiD remain from the old roster of Team Dignitas as the team acquired three new players recently. How will the new roster perform on the international stage? We will find out next week!
